The Yuba-Sutter United Way held their annual Day of Action Food Drive on Friday, June 20, 2014. The final tally resulted in more than 12,000 pounds of non-perishable foods distributed to local area food pantries!
An incredible feat made possible by all those who donated in the days leading up to Friday’s event and at the event itself. Even after the event, we continued to get food and cash donations.
To recap: We had drop-off locations at 38 locations in Yuba, Sutter and Colusa Counties during the weeks leading up to the event. Then last Friday nearly 100 volunteers worked at three locations in Yuba and Sutter Counties to accept food items and sort them for eight Yuba-Sutter food banks and for the Twin Cities Rescue Mission.
Meanwhile, in Colusa County, The Colusa Casino Resort spearheaded a successful drive in Colusa for Impact Life of Colusa. There were eight drop-off locations, plus Colusa Casino Resort had a successful food drive amongst its employees.
Special thanks to all 38 of the locations who acted as collection points. Also, we’re very grateful to the day of the event hosts: Grocery Outlet in Yuba City, Walgreens at Gray & Colusa in Yuba City and Walgreens in Marysville.
We’re also grateful for the assistance of the local media, including The Appeal-Democrat, KUBA 1600, Sunny 95.5, Country 103.1 and The Territorial Dispatch.
Our community met the call to take action to fill a huge shortage of foods for our neighbors in need.
