End of Year Donation 2019
Thank you so much for your support of Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way and for your deep concern for your community. This letter provides a rundown of a very strong year for your United Way and to ask you for your financial support as we close out 2019. Your donation stays local!
Perhaps you know tens of thousands of your neighbors in Yuba, Sutter and Colusa Counties struggle to get by in their daily lives. 25% of households are considered to be “food insecure,” with most not getting nutritious foods. Many don’t get proper medical care and many just fight to make ends meet.
In 2019, your Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way has strengthened its efforts to fight alongside those people in need and to be of help to them. We do this with direct programs and with our financial support of 27 local non-profit “Partner Agencies,” who assist more than 16,000 local individuals each month.
In addition, our “Community Impact Grant” program provided $65,000 in support to local non-profit groups for our community’s children and to provide services for the aging and homeless populations.
Also, in 2019, we increased our focus on providing nutritious foods to our area residents. Each year, we oversee the FEMA Emergency Food and Shelter Program for Yuba and Sutter Counties. We received $122,632 in funding for local food closets and the Yuba-Sutter Food Bank and funds for emergency housing going to Casa de Esperanza, Habitat for Humanity and the Yuba-Sutter Salvation Army. We also applied for and received an additional $35,000 in FEMA funding. The grand total: $157,632!
Our local food programs also had record years. Our summertime “Cash for Food Drive” raised more than $18,930 for area food closets and the November “Yuba-Sutter-Colusa Turkey Drive” has garnered 550 turkeys and hams and nearly $11,000 in cash. 100% of these monies go to assist some 8,000 of your neighbors in need! That brings the total raised through FEMA grants and local fundraising to more than $187,562!
But, Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way plays a much bigger role in the community, providing an annual “Community Resource Fair” in August, which brought together 79 local non-profit and government agencies to meet with more than 650 local residents to provide information on low-cost and no-cost programs and services and a free barbeque lunch.
We also are a daily major source for people calling for information on where to get food, shelter, help with utility payments and a myriad of other questions to provide vital information to improve their lives and those of their families. Some 600 calls are received during the year!
With your generous tax-deductible donation, we know we will continue to set records in assisting your neighbors in need in 2020. We really enjoy our work and helping people in need is our daily mission.
With your continuing support, together we will change the lives of a growing number of our local community’s women, men and children.
