Cash for Food Drive 2019
Unbeknownst to many people, the need for food for families in need is high in the summertime as donations to our local food closets drop. Yet, the demand actually rises as kids are out of school.
Each year, the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way runs a major “Cash for Food” drive at the start of summer, last year raising more than $15,000.
“The concept of raising money for local food closets has received great reviews from the food closets which collect and dispense foods as the cash donated allows the food closets to purchase what is needed to round out their summer inventory, instead of taking just what product is donated,” said Bob Harlan, Executive Director of Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way.
“In addition, if we raise our 2019 goal of $18,000, the equivalent number of pounds could reach 90,000 because of the food closet’s buying power with cash,” Harlan said.
Harlan stressed that no one will take any cash off of the top. 100% will go to 11 local food closets and the Yuba-Sutter Food Bank to purchase nutritious non-perishable foods for individuals and families in need this summer.
100% OF ALL DONATIONS will be distributed to the following local food pantries to purchase healthy, nutritious foods for those in need:
Catholic Ladies Relief Society; Christian Assistance Network; First Presbyterian Church of Marysville; Foothill Food Pantry; Marysville First United Methodist Church; Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church; The Salvation Army;
St. Andrew Presbyterian Church; St. John’s Episcopal Church;
St. Vincent de Paul; Twin Cities Rescue Mission and the Yuba-Sutter Food Bank
