Throughout our nation’s history, foreign-born people have come to the United States, taken the Oath of Allegiance to become naturalized citizens, and contributed greatly to their new communities and Country. Grace took that oath on November 2, 1994, in Sacramento. “I took the Oath of Allegiance to protect, honor, serve and became a citizen of the United States of America,” she said, “a proud milestone in my life.”
Grace is a daughter of immigrants; born in Michoacán, Mexico deep in the jungle mountains on her grandfather's ranch.
Grace came to the United States of America when she was two years old. She lived for many years in Colusa County and began working at the young age of twelve in the orchards and on the farmlands of the region. Just prior to her high school graduation, she began working at the Colusa County Office of Education as a receptionist. She is now the Program Coordinator of the Intervention and Prevention Programs for the Sutter County Office of Education. “My parents taught me a strong work ethic and dedication,” she said.
Grace has more than 30 years of professional experience in education, governmental systems, services and structures. She also has ten years of work experience in the private sector. Grace is a graduate of the University of Southern California with a Masters in Social Work with a Pupil Personnel Student Certificate - graduate program. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration and Management from the University of Phoenix, a Certification in Counseling Vocational Assessment & Career Counseling Program from Chapman College and a Certification in Human Resources and Management from California State University, Sacramento.
“We are proud to have Grace helping our community through the United Way,” said YSUW Vice President, Ben Moss.
