Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way will hold their annual "Celebration of Service and Awards Breakfast" on Thursday, August 3, at 8:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Catering, 210 Julie Drive in Yuba City.

The event features a buffet breakfast and presentation of the prestigious Pedro Award, Nancy Ferreira Leadership Award and the Bill Smith Award.

Three prestigious annual community leadership awards will be announced and presented during the breakfast. The awards are as follows:
 
Pedro Award:
Forty-seven years ago, the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way began to receive a modest monthly contribution, paid in cash, with a note stating, “TO HELP OTHERS” signed “PEDRO.” A year later it was decided to borrow the “Pedro” name for a very special Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way award. The Pedro Award is the only award of its kind, recognizing an individual’s lifetime of caring for his/her fellowman without thought of personal gain.
 
Nancy Ferreira Leadership Award:
In 1999, the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way established the Nancy Ferreira Leadership Award in memory of an exemplary United Way Executive Director and community leader whose spirit, actions, values, effort and dedication immensely benefited the citizens of the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa area.
 
This award is given annually in memory of Nancy Ferreira to an individual, business or organization most significantly contributing to the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way campaign and most similarly paralleling her leadership, dedication and actions.

Each recipient's name and year of the award are placed in the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way's "Nancy Ferreira Memorial Leadership Award" permanent display at the United Way office, and a plaque given to the winner.
 
Bill Smith Award:
The Bill Smith Award is selected by the Executive Director of Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way. The award is to honor United Way's own. It is fitting that it be named after "Bill Smith" who gave so many volunteer hours in his six years on the Board of Directors and his year as President of Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way. Bill was an outstanding member of this community and always gave more than asked. The award is presented in his memory and to acknowledge another YSCUW volunteer for their valuable ongoing support and commitment to United Way.
