United Way's Newest Board Members

Yuba-Sutter United Way inducted five new board members in June! These board members bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the United Way Board.

We are highlighting two of the board members, Chanell Cheney and Eric Pomeroy, in this issue and will include the other three in future editions.

Chanell Cheney:

Chanell Cheney is a lifelong resident of Yuba-Sutter, who serves the church administrator at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Yuba City. She is also owner of her own jewelry business, Bean Market,  as well as a partner in Three Trees Consulting; a public relations, event planning and marketing business.

Despite being on the YSUW board for a few months, Chanell has already taken on a major event – The Third Annual Golden Autumn Wine Festival.  This event is being held on Sunday, October 30 from 11:00 ‘till 4:00 at Bishop’s Pumpkin Farm.  Under her guidance, the wine festival continues to grow and evolve.

In addition to Yuba-Sutter United Way, Chanell is very active in the community with local service organizations. Chanell serves as vice president of Soroptimist International of Marysville-Yuba City, is a member of the Yuba-Sutter Salvation Army Advisory Board and, if that isn’t enough, is a Friends of the Sutter County Library board member.

Chanell has two boys, Ethan, five and Matthew, two. Her hope is to instill the importance of community involvement into her children.

When asked, “What do you love most about the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa community?” Chanell replied:

“We all know full well that being an active member of a community is vital to the success of our world, and what I love most about the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa community is that these communities always give back. I serve on numerous boards and have volunteered for a number of different organizations and I have never seen so much raw thoughtfulness in any community as I have here. These communities support the endeavors of young professionals, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and non-profits. There is always something to be involved in no matter what your interests are. We are a small yet mighty piece of Northern California and I am so honored to call these communities home."

And: “What encouraged you to become involved with the Yuba-Sutter United Way?”

“The Mission of the YSUW is what initially attracted me to this board.  The United Way is really all about improving the lives of those in our community. The Yuba-Sutter United Way is involved in creating and planning of so many incredible community events and the funds accumulated at these events have the ability to change lives. The Board members I serve with are amazing people with the most generous hearts I have ever encountered.”

Eric Pomeroy:

Eric Pomeroy is a recent addition to the Yuba-Sutter United Way board of directors, but he has already made some great contributions.  Despite a busy professional schedule, Eric has brought his professional expertise and his time to our organization.
