The Pedro Award

This award is given to an individual who is willing to help his/her fellowman without thought of personal gain.  This is the Yuba-Sutter United Way’s most prestigious local Award.

More than thirty five years ago the Yuba-Sutter United Way began to receive a generous monthly contribution paid in cash, with a note stating “TO HELP OTHERS” signed “PEDRO”.  A year later it was decided to borrow the Pedro name for a very special Yuba-Sutter United Way Award, this being the only award of its kind, recognizing an individual’s lifetime of caring for others.

Each recipients name and year of recognition will be placed in the United Way “Pedro” permanent display case in the United Way office, with a medallion and a handsome plaque going to the winner.

Nominees must be a resident of Yuba or Sutter Counties and have spent a good portion of their adult lives helping others through organizations like service clubs, church organizations, and youth clubs.   Individual nominees should be volunteers exhibiting efforts above and beyond those demonstrated by other volunteers in the community.  Pedro symbolizes the compassion of an individual for others.  He symbolizes the tireless efforts of countless volunteers who strive to build a better community for all of us.

Please call the YSUW office to receive a nomination form: 743-1847 or email: terry@yuba-sutterunitedway.org.
