Turkeys Make a Difference!

Turkeys Make a Difference!

The 2014 Annual Turkey Drive was a record breaker for turkey and monetary donations! Community members from the Yuba Sutter area were very gracious this year with their donations to the Turkey Drive hosted by local radio stations: COUNTRY 103.1, 1600 KUBA and Sunny 95.5!

For the two weeks prior to Thanksgiving, turkeys and cash donations were collected by members of the Yuba-Sutter United Way Board of Directors and helpful volunteers.  Eleven local businesses in Marysville and Yuba City participated as drop-off locations.   Drop off locations in Marysville were: Cotton's Cowboy Corral; End Zone; Les Schwab Tire Center; TJ Norths and Yuba Community College. In Yuba City: Del Taco; State Farm Insurance; The Shack; Les Schwab Tire Center; Rush Personnel and Golden Valley Auto Body.

Twelve local agencies received 480 turkeys. Cash donations of $5,589 were used to purchase 223 hams, side dishes and other items to complete holiday meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas for needy families.  Agencies distributing the food were: The Salvation Army; Central Valley Homeless Veterans Assistance Program; Yuba-Sutter Food Bank, Inc.; Casa de Esperanza; Christian Assistance Network; St. Andrew Presbyterian Church; Twin Cities Rescue Mission; Nor Cal Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing; Marysville First United Methodist Church; Western Farm Workers Association; Sutter Yuba Mental Health and Good Seed Church.

The Yuba-Sutter United Way graciously thanks all who donated this year to make this event a success! Thanks also to the volunteers who came out for the drive. We especially want to thank COUNTRY 103.1, 1600 KUBA and Sunny 95.5 for sponsoring the drive.

Everyone helped needy families have brighter holiday memories in 2014!
